Welcome to West Bengal Traffic Police

Message from Gyanwant Singh, IPS, DGP, Traffic & Road Safety, West Bengal

Traffic management has emerged as one of the most critical challenges before the Police in view of rapid urbanization, exponential growth in the number of vehicles, and increasing pressure on existing road infrastructure. Road accidents continue to pose a serious threat, resulting in significant loss of precious human lives and property.

The Police play a pivotal role in traffic regulation, strict enforcement of motor vehicle laws, promotion of road safety awareness, and ensuring prompt response and assistance to accident victims. Strengthening traffic management systems through enhanced manpower, modern equipment, improved communication networks, emergency response vehicles, and digital interventions remains our priority to ensure safer and smoother road journeys.

The Traffic Branch of West Bengal Police continuously monitors traffic conditions across all Commissionerates and Districts on a 24×7 basis. In coordination with the Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, sustained efforts are being made to promote road safety awareness and responsible road usage among all stakeholders.

Our dedicated website has been developed to provide citizens with essential legal provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (as amended in 2019) and the Bengal Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, along with important contact information and a platform for lodging traffic-related complaints.

The Traffic Wing remains fully committed to the vision of “SAFE DRIVE SAVE LIFE”. Through identification of accident-prone black spots, infrastructure improvements, strict enforcement, and adoption of technology-driven solutions, we strive to reduce road traffic accidents and ensure the safety of every road user.

I seek the cooperation of all citizens in making our roads safer and more disciplined.

Wish you Safe and Responsible Driving.
